About Me

I was a sighted person with good vision until 2000 and I noticed that something was wrong.  It was then I was diagnosed with atrophy of the optic nerve.  I was declared legally blind in January of 2001 and subsequently retired from my job at a rock quarry in November of 2002. 

After about a year of trying to figure out which direction to go I found the DBS offices and went to the Chris Cole Rehabilitation Center to learn how to be blind and train for the Business Enterprises of Texas program.  I graduated on February 11th, 2004 and became a licensed manager successfully operating three Roadside Rest Areas on April 1st, 2004. 

In December 2008 I ran for the Elected Committee and at the first quarterly meeting I was elected to be the Committee Chair.  I’ve been recently reelected to this position for the sixth consecutive term.
